ResourcesEnvironmental volunteering alludes to volunteer work aimed towards environmental management. Volunteers in this area carry out a variety of activities that range from environmental monitoring to ecological restoration, including re-vegetation and unwanted plant removal, and teaching others about the natural environment.
As is the case with other forms of volunteering, green volunteers are driven by several different factors, both altruistic and of a personal interest and development nature. Known motivations are to make a contribution to their community, promote social interaction, personal development, learn about the natural environment, an ethic of care for the environment and affinity to a particular place. Green volunteers have been increasingly exerting roles such as environmental monitoring, while public investment in professional environmental managers to conduct such roles has been declining.
Undoubtedly, the largest environmental volunteering organization is Greenpeace, which has focused its efforts on world wide issues as are global warming, deforestation, overfishing, commercial whaling and nuclear power.
