Volunteering SponsorsAs the name itself implies, volunteer work is not remunerated. In fact most, if not all volunteer organizations have a non-profit policy. Therefore, sponsors are very important to keep these activities going on. Sponsorship can take the form of monetary contributions, but it can also take place as endorsement from a prominent figure. An example of the latter is former US president Jimmy Carter, arguably the biggest proponent of Habitat for Humanity, an international, non-governmental organization dedicated to building simple, decent, and affordable housing.
Companies may also support volunteer activities, as per the concept of corporate social responsibility, which, among other efforts, is translated into charity and volunteer work. A company's actual employees may be allowed to volunteer during work hours, as most of the Fortune 500 companies do.
Average persons can also sponsor a volunteer, either locally or abroad, with the added benefit that their contribution may be tax deductible.
