What Volunteers DoThe general concept of volunteering is based on helping those who are less unfortunate, such as building homes for low income families. However, there are some clearly defined areas when it comes to volunteer work, each with particular characteristics of its own.
Skills based volunteering, for example, is that in which the volunteer is trained in a specific field, as opposed to traditional volunteering, where there is no training required. Virtual volunteering, on the other hand, refers to activities that can be completed from a computer at home, school or work, or any other device with internet connection. Micro-volunteering is similar, except that it does not require an application process or a training period, as virtual volunteering usually does. Environmental volunteers work to preserve the environment, while community volunteers work to improve their local community. In contrast, international work camps offer the opportunity to participate in projects with participants from different countries.
